About this artwork

Peregrine Falcons hold the title for being the speediest birds of prey. These guys hunt for their meals mid-flight, diving at crazy speeds that can reach up to 240 miles per hour. You'll find them hanging out in the UK all year round, particularly in the northern and western uplands. Frink's peregrine falcon is taking a chill pill at the moment, perched on a glittering golden stone. The contrast is quite striking with the bird's dark-hued feathers standing out against the stone.

About the artist

British artist, Dame Elisabeth Frink (1930-1993) was born in Thurlow, Suffolk. Her diverse creative journey, creating sculptures, drawings, and etchings, started at Guildford and Chelsea School of Art. Beyond her sculptures, she also explored illustrations for classics like 'The Odyssey' and 'The Canterbury Tales'.

Birds are a consistent motif in her work, as an embodiement of raw emotions and natural form. She taught at the Chelsea School of Art (1953-1961) and St. Martin’s School of Art (1954-1962).
