About this artwork

Eugene Louis Boudin was a pioneer among French landscape artists, famously opting to paint outdoors. He had a particular talent for capturing the northern French coastline, much like in this depiction of a jetty in Trouville, a district in Normandy. The painting highlights a lively scene where spectators are engrossed in watching the fishing boats, the Le Havre steamer, and three-masted ships battling the wind as they try to maneuver the narrow channel.
