About this artwork

This artwork is part of a collection of Stubbs' creations made for his rich, high-class patrons. They wanted precise portraits of their race horses, and that's exactly what he delivered. His deep dive into the anatomy of horses, which led to his book 'The Anatomy of the Horse', really helped him with his ultra-realistic representations.

Express service for unframed print and posters by Royal Mail Special Delivery to arrive the next working day for an additional cost. Framed prints are always shipped by express courier.

UK - £6.90 for unframed items by Royal Mail Special Delivery

International - Shipping is calculated before you check out according to destination.

About the artist

George Stubbs (1724-1806) was an English painter, best known for his paintings of horses. He was a pioneer in the field of animal painting and was one of the first to paint horses in a naturalistic style. He was influenced by the Dutch masters, particularly Rembrandt, and was a master of anatomical accuracy. He was also a skilled engraver and etcher. Stubbs was a self-taught artist who never travelled abroad, but he was highly respected in his lifetime.
