About this artwork

George Stubbs was an English artist who taught himself to paint, and he was most famously recognised for his animal paintings, largely inspired by his passion for anatomy. In 1760, Lord Bolingbroke commissioned him to create 'Tristram Shandy - A Bay Racehorse held by a Groom in an Extensive Landscape'.

UK - £6.90 for unframed items by Royal Mail Special Delivery

International - Shipping is calculated before you check out according to destination.

About the artist

George Stubbs (1724-1806) was an English painter, best known for his paintings of horses. He was a pioneer in the field of animal painting and was one of the first to paint horses in a naturalistic style. He was influenced by the Dutch masters, particularly Rembrandt, and was a master of anatomical accuracy. He was also a skilled engraver and etcher. Stubbs was a self-taught artist who never travelled abroad, but he was highly respected in his lifetime.
