About this artwork

Check out this image, it's tall and slim and filled with a bunch of different veggies - mainly in shades of green, orange, and yellow. The background keeps switching up with all sorts of bright colours. You might even spot an individual leek and pepper in there.This original piece is created with gouache on paper, and then cut and pasted. The dimensions? It measures 81 x 17.5 cm.

About the artist

Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was a French artist who is widely regarded as one of the most influential painters of the 20th century. He was a leader of the Fauvism movement, which emphasised strong colours and bold, expressive brushstrokes. Matisse was also heavily influenced by the Post-Impressionists, particularly Paul Cézanne. He was known for his use of bright colours and his ability to capture the essence of a scene in a single image. Matisse was also a sculptor, printmaker, and draughtsman. He was married twice and had three children.
