About this artwork

Jean-Michel Basquiat harnessed the power of acrylic and oil sticks to create 'Untitled', a sprawling triptych that crosses three wooden canvases. The majesty of this artwork mirrors Basquiat's most triumphant year as a creator, punctuated by his feature on the cover of 'The New York Times', where the painting served as a backdrop. An array of ferocious beasts, incorporating the form of a jungle cat and a shadowy figure, is harmoniously balanced with delicate brushstrokes. About the artist

Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) was an American artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent. He rose to prominence in the 1980s as part of the Neo-expressionist movement, and his work focused on social commentary and the exploration of identity. Basquiat was heavily influenced by the New York City street culture of the time, and his work often featured graffiti-like imagery. He was also known for his collaborations with fellow artist Andy Warhol. Basquiat's life was tragically cut short at the age of 27 due to a drug overdose.
