About this artwork

Katsushika Hokusai was a celebrated artist and printmaker originally from Japan's Edo period, well-known for his mastery in Ukiyo-e. This particular style of Japanese art involves a collective approach to printing where the artist, carver, printer, and publisher each play key roles. Among Hokusai's notable works is 'Lightning Below the Summit', a woodblock print piece from his 'Thirty-six view of Mount Fuji' series. The artwork features a dramatically depicted Mount Fuji, with bold, heavy tones. A lightning bolt dramatically splits the ominous base of the mountain, contrasted by the sharp rise of its snowcap.

Express services:

Express service for unframed print and posters by Royal Mail Special Delivery to arrive the next working day for an additional cost. Framed prints are always shipped by express courier.

UK - £3.95 for unframed items by 1st Class Packetpost
UK - £6.90 for unframed items by Royal Mail Special Delivery
UK - £8.95 for framed items.

International - Shipping is calculated before you check out according to destination.
International - Unframed by Registered AirMail or by premium express courier (select at checkout).
Very large prints are always sent by express service.

About the artist

Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was a Japanese artist and ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period. He was influenced by Chinese painting and developed the ukiyo-e style, which focused on landscapes and the daily life of the Japanese people. Hokusai was a prolific artist, producing over 30,000 works during his lifetime. He is best known for his series of woodblock prints, The Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, which includes the iconic Great Wave off Kanagawa.
