About this artwork

Katsushika Hokusai was a master artist and printmaker from Japan during the Edo era. He was known for his work in Ukiyo-e, a unique style of Japanese art that involved a detailed process of collaboration. This involved the artist, the one who carved the design, the one who printed it, and the one who published the final product all working together. While living in the Shinano Province in a town called Obuse, Hokusai created several iconic works. One of these was 'Masculine Wave,' a striking piece that depicts a massive wave as the main subject, looming over the dark depths of the ocean.

Unframed prints are usually shipped on the next working day if ordered before 2pm. Framed items can take one or two working days longer with our experts in the framing workshop.

Express services:

Express service for unframed print and posters by Royal Mail Special Delivery to arrive the next working day for an additional cost. Framed prints are always shipped by express courier.

Shipping Fees:

UK - £3.95 for unframed items by 1st Class Packetpost
UK - £6.90 for unframed items by Royal Mail Special Delivery
UK - £8.95 for framed items.

International - Shipping is calculated before you check out according to destination.
International - Unframed by Registered AirMail or by premium express courier (select at checkout).
Very large prints are always sent by express service.
International - Framed by premium express courier (select at checkout).

About the artist

Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was a Japanese artist and ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period. He was influenced by Chinese painting and developed the ukiyo-e style, which focused on landscapes and the daily life of the Japanese people. Hokusai was a prolific artist, producing over 30,000 works during his lifetime. He is best known for his series of woodblock prints, The Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, which includes the iconic Great Wave off Kanagawa.
