About this artwork

L.S Lowry is known for his artistic depictions of bustling city scenes brimming with stylised figures, often called 'matchstick men'. His piece, 'Coming From The Mill' portrays mill workers trudging home after a hard day's work. He drew inspiration from the industrial structures and centers he observed near his home base in Pendlebury, Lancashire to visualise the factory in this masterpiece. Lowry personally considered this painting as his most typical mill scene. This print is colour coordinated to match the original painting and has been approved by The Lowry. Each purchase contributes to the gallery's endeavors.

About the artist

L.S. Lowry (1887-1976) was an English artist known for his urban landscapes of industrial scenes in the North of England. He was a self-taught artist, and his style was a combination of Impressionism and Expressionism. He was influenced by the works of French Impressionists such as Monet and Pissarro, as well as the English artist, William Hogarth. Lowry was a shy and reclusive man, and his works often depicted the loneliness of the industrial city. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1968.
