About this artwork

'L.S. Lowry created the artwork 'Level Crossing' in 1946. Lowry is known for his vivid depictions of bustling city scenes. However, later in his artistic journey, he began to focus on clusters of people with minimal or even no architectural elements. In 'Level Crossing', Lowry chose to depict a level crossing in the quaint market town of Burton-on-Trent, located in Staffordshire. According to Lowry, the train in the painting was inspired by the model trains owned by his friend's son. This print is colour-matched to the original piece and is officially approved by The Lowry. Each purchase contributes to supporting the gallery's work.
