L.S Lowry's 'The Beach' is a famous piece. Known for his distinct style of capturing bustling cityscapes in northern England, he often painted what people call 'matchstick men'. About the artist

L.S. Lowry (1887-1976) was an English artist known for his urban landscapes of industrial scenes in the North of England. He was a self-taught artist, and his style was a combination of Impressionism and Expressionism. He was influenced by the works of French Impressionists such as Monet and Pissarro, as well as the English artist, William Hogarth. Lowry was a shy and reclusive man, and his works often depicted the loneliness of the industrial city. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1968.
