About this artwork

'L.S Lowry's artwork 'Two People' was created in 1962. Lowry earned recognition for his vivid depictions of bustling urban scenes, but later shifted his focus to individual figures, often against stark backgrounds devoid of architectural detail. He claimed that his paintings were inspired by real people he observed on the streets of Greater Manchester. This artwork, which showcases a man and a woman hunched over something, is a perfect example of his later works. The largely white backdrop adds an element of intrigue about what exactly the characters are engrossed in. This print is colour-matched with the original artwork and is endorsed by The Lowry. About the artist

L.S. Lowry (1887-1976) was an English artist known for his urban landscapes of industrial scenes in the North of England. He was a self-taught artist, and his style was a combination of Impressionism and Expressionism. He was influenced by the works of French Impressionists such as Monet and Pissarro, as well as the English artist, William Hogarth. Lowry was a shy and reclusive man, and his works often depicted the loneliness of the industrial city. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1968.
