About this artwork

The 'Promenade' piece of art was created by Raoul Dufy, a French artist, while he was living in Nice, France. Dufy's vibrant use of paint and emphasis on colour is a nod to Fauvism, an artistic movement pioneered by early 20th-century modern artists. They favored strong colours and painterly qualities over realism in their art. This was a stark departure from the traditional artistic techniques that Dufy had previously employed in his work. Giclee prints of these pieces, made with exceptional quality, are available. They are printed full bleed, meaning there's no white border, on 260gsm paper.

About the artist

Raoul Dufy (3 June 1877 - 23 March 1953) was a French Fauvist painter and printmaker. He was known for his colourful and decorative scenes of landscapes, leisure activities, and the French Riviera. He was influenced by the work of Vincent van Gogh and Paul Signac, and his work was often characterised by a spontaneous approach and a bold use of colour. Dufy was also a prolific designer of textiles, ceramics, and theater sets. He was a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts and the Legion of Honor.
