About the artist

Originally from Montreal, the Canadian photographer Robert Cadloff, also known as bomobob, is well known for his unique, colourful and retro-style artwork. His subjects, both natural and man-made landscapes, are illuminated through innovative exposure and lighting techniques. Cadloff's fascination with photography, particularly with the vibrant hues of carnivals, took hold at the tender age of six, becoming a way to express his dreams and early recollections.

Cadloff relishes the thrill of road trips. He ventures off the beaten track, traversing the back roads of North America in search of remnants from an era when style was synonymous with signage - the golden age of the automobile. The enduring roadside signs and motels are a testament to this period.

The aim of Cadloff's work is often to replicate the manner in which we are conditioned to view old signs. He intentionally incorporates the colours and shades of aged film slides to stir those memories – a nod to the Kodachrome slides of old held up against the light.
