About this artwork

Salvador Dali, a Spanish Surrealist artist, created the piece 'Dream Caused by a Bee Flight' back in 1944. The artwork showcases a woman, speculated to be his wife Gala, stretched out on a floating rock above a sea. Dali expressed that this painting was meant to encapsulate the moment Sigmund Freud first unearthed the fact that a dream's narrative can abruptly rouse a person from sleep. To portray this, Dali placed the bayonet's rifle against Gala's skin, giving the impression of a bee sting, a sensation potent enough to awaken her from her slumber.

About the artist

Salvador Dali , born on 11 May 1904 and died on 23 January 1989, was a Spanish surrealist artist who was well known for his technical skill and precise draftsmanship. He was heavily influenced by the works of Sigmund Freud and was a leader of the Surrealist movement. He was also known for his flamboyant and eccentric public persona. Dali was a skilled draftsman, best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. He also had an affinity for the Old Masters, particularly Raphael and Velazquez. He was also a skilled filmmaker and writer.
