About this artwork

'Salvador Dali, a Spanish Surrealist artist, created 'Geopoliticus Child Watching the Birth of the New Man' in 1943, in the midst of World War II. After the havoc caused by the war, people yearned for the reassurance and well-established worth of tradition. This led to a new art movement known as the 'Return to Order', which was characterised by a resurgence of more traditional art styles. As a result, Dali started incorporating more familiar classic imagery into his artworks. The man struggling to emerge from a cracked white egg in this painting is based on the figure in 'Isabella', a painting by Pre-Raphaelite artist John Everett Millais.
