About this artwork

Back in 1958, the well known Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali created the piece 'Meditative Rose'. This painting features a rose floating in a vibrant blue sky over a barren landscape with a couple in an embrace. This work differs from Dali's usually abstract style, coming across as quite direct. It's believed that Dali chose to create this simpler piece to cater to a broader range of tastes for an upcoming surrealist exhibition. This portrayal of a rose also has a water droplet delicately placed on one of the petals, providing a glossy 3D effect that demonstrates Dali's artistic prowess.

About the artist

Salvador Dali , born on 11 May 1904 and died on 23 January 1989, was a Spanish surrealist artist who was well known for his technical skill and precise draftsmanship. He was heavily influenced by the works of Sigmund Freud and was a leader of the Surrealist movement. He was also known for his flamboyant and eccentric public persona. Dali was a skilled draftsman, best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. He also had an affinity for the Old Masters, particularly Raphael and Velazquez. He was also a skilled filmmaker and writer.
