About this artwork
The front page photo of The Tatler from May 9, 1962, clicked by Barry Warner, is an iconic tribute to London Fashion Week. It showcases three models (with Jean Shrimpton at the rear) donning vibrant ballgowns with the iconic Houses of Parliament and Big Ben in the background. These full-length evening dresses were exclusively designed for Tatler by three well known members of London's Fashion House Group. Frederick Starke is the creator of the foreground ballgown, a masterpiece made from golden Sekers brocade. The gold satin strapless dress sandwiched in the middle is the brainchild of Susan Small, and the rear ensemble in bold orange corded silk and royal purple is the handiwork of Jean Allen.
