About this artwork

Wassily Kandinsky created 'In the Black Circle (Dans le Cercle Noir)' back in 1923. At the time, he was residing in Weimar, Germany, where he also held a teaching post at the well known German art institute, Bauhaus. It was during this era that Kandinsky began evolving towards a more geometrically abstract style, focusing on meticulously planned compositions. He was also influenced by the concept of constructivism, a notion gaining popularity among Russian artists like Vladimir Tatlin. Tatlin held the belief that art should be a direct representation of the modern industrial world.
