About this artwork

'Untitled' is a piece of art created by Wassily Kandinsky back in 1923. At the time, he was residing in Weimar, Germany, and imparting his knowledge at the German art school known as Bauhaus. Kandinsky used this period to transition into more geometric abstract work and focus on a better-composed layout. He was also greatly influenced by the concept of constructivism that was on the rise in Russia. Artists like Vladimir Tatlin, who held the belief that art should mirror the contemporary industrial world, were the ones who sparked this movement.

About the artist

Wassily Kandinsky , born on December 16, 1866 and died on December 13, 1944, was a Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited as the pioneer of abstract art and is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He was a leader of the avant-garde movement Der Blaue Reiter and was a professor at the Bauhaus school of art. His works are characterised by a strong sense of colour and form, and his theories on art were highly influential. Kandinsky was also a pianist and a philosopher, and his works were heavily influenced by music and spiritualism.
