About this artwork

Bob and Roberta Smith were the brains behind 'The Art Party' which they started in 2013. Their worry was about how the Government was reducing the importance of arts and design in schools. In the same year, the party organised a conference supported by the Arts Council which emphasised on the significance of art education in schools. This print is a color-accurate match to the original and has been officially endorsed by the Royal Academy of Arts.

About the artist

Patrick Brill, known by the pseudonym Bob and Roberta Smith, is an artist who was born in London. He attended the University of Reading from 1981 to 1985 and Goldsmiths College in 1991. Brill refined his skills as a sign painter in New York and employs text as a medium of artistic expression. His creations comprise vibrant slogans displayed on banners and placards, challenging elitism and advocating for the significance of creativity in politics and education. Notable works include "Make Art Not War" (1997) and "Letter to Michael Gove" (2011), which reprimanded the UK Secretary of State for Education for undermining Britain's artistic capabilities.

Brill has also curated various projects, such as "Art U Need: An Outdoor Revolution" (2005-2006), which transformed public spaces in the Thames Gateway, and "Peace Camp" (2006) at The Brick Lane Gallery, an exploration of artists' perspectives on peace. He actively participates as a speaker in conferences and symposia, and in 2013, he initiated the Arts' Party Conference, providing a platform for artists and organizations to discuss the role of art and design in schools.

Additionally, Bob and Roberta Smith is a versatile artist, serving as a writer and musician. He frequently performs alongside the Ken Brasley Playboy band and hosts the radio program "Make Your Own Damn Music" on Resonance FM. In 2009, he became a Tate Trustee, and he presently holds the position of Associate Professor at London Metropolitan University's Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture, and Design.
