About this artwork

This artwork illustrates the instance when Christ expelled merchants from a temple because they were selling animals for sacrifice. You can see Christ's rage in his raised arm, poised to hit. To emphasise the traders' sinful deeds, there's a sculpture representing Adam and Eve's ejection from Eden to the left of the archway. El Greco tackled this theme at least four times, but this one stands out as one of the most dramatic portrayals. This print is in color and corresponds to the original painting, with approval from the National Gallery. Every purchase contributes to the museum's ongoing work.
