About this artwork
Back in 1921, notable figures and stars of the Jazz Age, including the retail tycoon Gordon Selfridge, took the initiative to create an organization named 'Brighter London'. Its objective was to address concerns like enhancing lighting in buildings and public areas. The concept of 'Brighter London' continued to resonate throughout the 1920s, inspiring artists who designed posters for the Underground. By incorporating bold colours and minutely portraying the trendy patterns of the outfits worn by leisure-seekers, these artists hoped to lure people to ride the Tube to the city and discover 'Brightest London'.This poster was released by the Underground Electric Railways Company of London in 1924. The London Transport Museum's historic poster archive has accurately reproduced this print. Each purchase contributes to the museum's work.
