About the artist

Keith Henderson OBE RP RSW RWS ROI (April 17, 1883 - February 24, 1982) was a distinctive Scottish painter, muralist and illustrator. His art education took place at Marlborough College, followed by studies at the Slade School of Fine Art and in Paris. He began his career primarily as a portrait artist, working with both watercolours and oils.

Henderson's extensive professional journey encompassed roles as an official war artist during the First and Second World Wars, even serving in the trenches during the former. Post his Army cavalry service in World War I, he embarked on travels through Africa and South America. The local flora and fauna from these regions often inspired his vibrant artwork. During World War II, he served as a War Artist attached to the Royal Air Force.

Residing in Spean Bridge, Inverness-shire, Henderson was also well known for his book illustrations and for creating poster designs for London Transport and the Empire Marketing Board.
