About this artwork

Marc Chagall, a French-Russian artist with Jewish roots, was known for his involvement in various notable modern art movements. He created art in numerous forms and formats. In 1939, he created 'The Bridal Pair with the Eiffel Tower', where a bride and groom are seen hugging each other with the Eiffel Tower in the backdrop. The duo appears to be floating due to their unusual positioning, amplified by the miniature depiction of the town in the backdrop. Chagall has also added allusions to well-known nursery rhymes in this piece. For instance, there's a cow that appears to float in the top right corner, referencing the nursery rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle where it goes ‘the cow jumped over the moon’.
