About this artwork

Salvador Dali, the famed Spanish Surrealist painter, revisited one of his previous pieces, 'The Persistence of Memory', to create 'The disintegration of the persistence of memory'. In this new rendition, he submerged the original scene underwater and split the plane and wooden block into brick-like figures, suspended side by side in mid-air. It was around 1945, after the first atomic bomb detonations, that Dali developed a fascination with nuclear physics. He realised that all matter consists of atoms and chose to reflect this concept in his artwork.
