About the artist

Zhen-Huan Lu is well known for his landscape paintings devoid of people yet rich in human emotions and spirit. He draws attention to seemingly ordinary scenes, such as idle rocking chairs or oars against a weathered beach house, revealing a world beyond the obvious through meticulous detail.

Educated at Shanghai Theatre Academy's Department of Stage Design, famous for its Western-style landscape painting curriculum, Lu taught painting and stage design prior to his relocation to the US in 1986 for a solo exhibition in New York.

Lu's disciplined study of life, Western painting methods, and a blend of Eastern and Western aesthetics, culminated in a unique style of poetic realism. It's a distinctly American style, aimed at revealing the unseen in everyday scenarios. His diverse training equipped him as a master of watercolour, egg tempera, and oil painting each requiring particular skill, and each lending a specific quality to his works.
