About this artwork

Camille Pissarro, a French artist, found refuge in London for more than a year when he escaped the Franco-Prussian war in 1870. While there, Pissarro was inspired to capture various scenes around his residence in West London, one of which was Lordship Lane Station in Dulwich. From his vantage point on a footbridge above the railway lines, he beautifully depicted a train departing the station. This print is a perfect colour match to his original masterpiece and has received the stamp of approval from the Courtauld Gallery. Plus, every purchase contributes to the ongoing work of the Courtauld.

About the artist

Camille Pissarro (10 July 1830 – 13 November 1903) was a Danish-French Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter born on the island of St Thomas. He was a key figure in the development of both Impressionism and Post-Impressionism and was one of the first artists to embrace the use of plein-air painting. Pissarro was also a teacher to many of the great artists of the early 20th century, including Paul Cézanne, Georges Seurat, and Paul Gauguin. He was also a close friend of Claude Monet and Auguste Renoir.
