About the artist
Born in London in 1934, Derek Balmer began his art education in Bristol at the West of England College of Art. At 21, he exhibited his painting at the Royal West of England Academy, where he has displayed his work annually ever since. Balmer became the official photographer for the Bristol Old Vic in 1961, while also pursuing his passion for painting. His style evolved to incorporate vibrant colours and semi-abstract elements. Balmer later expanded his exhibition reach and became involved with the Royal West of England Academy.
