About the artist

Born in Northampton in 1879, Henry George Gawthorn initially pursued architecture. However, he eventually transitioned to portrait and figurative painting. Besides his painting career, Gawthorn penned books on poster design and created posters for the LNER. He was educated at the Regent Street Polytechnic.
