She began her career teaching art to kindergarten through eighth-grade students for half a decade, before finding time to create her own art while teaching and waiting tables. Upon turning 30, she made the decision to focus on her art full time and left her teaching role. Unfortunately, the 2008 economic downturn caused all the galleries she was involved with to close down. This led her to diversify her artistic portfolio by establishing Jenny Pennywood, a line focused on graphic design and textiles. Working under this pseudonym allowed her to explore her creativity even further.
