About this artwork

Leonardo Da Vinci, the celebrated Italian Renaissance artist, created 'The Virgin of the Rocks'. This artwork was a part of a grand altarpiece for the San Francesco Grande church in Milan. The painting was commissioned to honor the immaculate conception of the Virgin Mary, marking the moment when baby Christ was conceived. A distinctive part of the print showcases the left side of the painting, where Saint John the Baptist, Christ's cousin, kneels beside Mary. Da Vinci employed groundbreaking techniques in his painting to make it appear as though the figures were emerging from the shadows.
