Taking inspiration from a summer spent at Sanna Bay in Scotland, Lesley Birch's "Days of Sand and Sun" embodies the artist's recollection of the immaculate white sand."These paintings are more than just depictions of landscapes, they're sentimental recreations of Scottish lochs and coastal areas. I think that for most people, the landscapes of our birthplaces have an indelible impact on us. This resonates with me deeply. The process of painting these landscapes often feels subconscious – I may not know what the final result will look like, but once the paintings manifest themselves, I immediately recognise the places they represent. These paintings talk back to me in a way.From my aunt's home on Isle of Arran, to traversing the West Coast and basking in the sun on Isle of Lewis, or even scaling a rocky cliff edge from the sea in Kintyre - all these experiences are encapsulated in my art. My approach involves layering and expressive brushstrokes to depict the movement of air and the soundscape on the canvas. But most significantly, my work is about the interplay of colour and a touch of abstraction to reflect my profound love for the natural beauty and vibrant energy of Scotland." - Lesley Birch 2022.
