About the artist

Born in Swansea, Wales, in 1955, Vivienne Williams is celebrated for her exquisite still-life paintings. After earning her Master's Degree in 'The Literary Response to the Visual Arts' from Reading University, she embarked on global escapades, teaching English in Venice and Padua, and selling her artwork in Sydney for the first time. Upon returning to the UK in 1983, she immersed herself in a Buddhist Community before wholly dedicating herself to painting in 1990 and relocating back to Wales.

Her early art was vibrant and expressive, primarily focusing on floral subjects. For the past thirteen years, she has refined her attention towards still-life, constantly refining her palette and establishing her unique style.

Her work exudes serenity, slowly revealing its depth and rewarding the viewer over time. She paints everyday items, often on tables, against shifting backdrops of windows and open landscapes. Each painting undergoes numerous revisions as she performs a balancing act of deciding what to include and exclude. Equally crucial are the spaces as the objects themselves. Her canvases see layers of paint energetically scratched, sanded, and stained, transforming an initial tumult into a tranquil masterpiece.
