About the artist
Born into a comfortable middle-class family in Hereford, the British artist and designer studied at the Slade School from 1910 to 1914. She formed a relationship with writer Lytton Strachey, a prominent member of the Bloomsbury Group. Despite her distressing emotional life, marked by Strachey's homosexuality, she married Ralph Partridge but remained devoted to Strachey. Tragically, she took her own life shortly after his death. Carrington painted portraits, landscapes, and figure compositions. She also engaged in decorative work at her home in Wiltshire. Her letters and diaries were published in 1970, reigniting interest in her art.
