About this artwork

Pablo Picasso created 'Cover for Verve' as the 1951 cover for Verve, a contemporary art magazine based in Paris. This magazine was known for featuring art prints by well known artists from the Parisian art scene in the early 20th century. Picasso's cover design features three figures that resemble fauns, all set against a vibrant yellow backdrop.

About the artist

Pablo Picasso , born 25 October 1881 and died 8 April 1973, was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France. He is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore. His work is often categorised into periods, with the Blue Period (1901-1904) and the Rose Period (1904-1906) being the most famous. Picasso's personal life was often tumultuous, with multiple marriages and affairs, and he had four children from three different women. He was also a political activist and a prolific artist, producing over 20,000 works of art in his lifetime.
