About this artwork
When World War II broke out in September 1939, the government implemented several war-time strategies. One major approach was to switch off the street lights to confuse enemy bombers, leading to a darkened cityscape. As a result, London Transport had to adapt their posters to this change, taking on a more cautionary tone. This particular poster features an owl, a symbol often used in London Transport's later night-related campaigns. It subtly advises passengers against staying out too late. This artwork was produced by London Transport in 1943 and is an accurate reproduction of the original found in the historic poster archive at the London Transport Museum.
