About this artwork
"Creating the illusion of undulating waves using studio brooms, and manipulating the canvas while the paint is still wet to mimic a withdrawing wave - I'm really satisfied with the dynamism I've achieved in this piece. I was aiming to encapsulate the nuanced colour shifts seen along the Cornwall coast, the hazy boundary where the sky kisses the sea, the horizon. In most of my art, I wrestle with being impromptu and limiting myself to the least number of strokes possible. Using the broom was a move born out of exasperation, and luckily for me, it worked out this time. The hues of the seaweeds and shells against the Cornish rocks, and the relatively subdued tones of the sea, gave me the liberty to play around with the colours." - Michael Sole
