About this artwork
This excellent print draws inspiration from a colour-printed, meticulously hand-finished stipple engraving named Camellia (var) fleurs blanches: Camellia Japonica. The engraving was originally created by Langlois around 1800, based on an original piece by Pierre Joseph Redouté, a well known artist from 1759-1840.The print is a representation from P. J. Redouté's collection, "Choix des plus belles fleurs". The collection was published sporadically in parts in Paris, each part featuring four plates, during the period of 1827 to 1833. This particular piece is from Plate 17.
