About this artwork
This superior grade print draws its inspiration from a colour-infused, hand-touched stipple engraving named Tulipe de Gesner: Tulipa Gesneriana. This piece was engraved by Langlois, active in the 1800s, and was based on an original piece by Pierre Joseph Redouté, who lived from 1759 to 1840. This print was featured in P. J. Redouté's collection titled Choix des plus belles fleurs. This series was published in parts, each part consisting of four plates, in Paris over the span of six years from 1827 till 1833. The piece in question is represented on Plate 141.
