About this artwork

This excellent print is a reproduction of a watercolour painting on paper that portrays cherries. It's from a collection called 'Flores a Petro Holsteyn ad vivum depicti', created by the artist Pieter Holsteyn. Pieter Holsteyn junior was born in Haarlem around 1614 and apprenticed under his dad, Pieter Holsteyn senior. He learned to paint on different surfaces like paper, canvas, glass, and vellum and also created engraved portraits. In 1662, he joined St Luke's Guild, a local guild for artists and painters. This collection has a total of 142 sketches and was first created around 1634.
