About this artwork

Sunflowers' is without a doubt one of the most well known and cherished masterpieces by Vincent Van Gogh. Van Gogh created seven distinct sunflower paintings to adorn his Arles residence in anticipation of a visit from his friend and fellow artist, Paul Gauguin, who was well-known for his admiration of Van Gogh's floral studies. In true Dutch 17th-century style, Van Gogh used a palette dominated by yellows to depict the various stages of a sunflower's life, from budding to decay, highlighting the fleeting beauty of nature. This print has been meticulously colour matched to the original painting and has received the endorsement of the National Gallery. Every sale contributes to the ongoing work of the museum.

About the artist

Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter whose work, notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold colour, had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. His style was heavily influenced by Impressionism, Symbolism and Japanese woodblock prints. He was a prolific artist, producing more than 2,000 artworks in his lifetime, including landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits. His personal life was marked by mental illness and poverty.
