About this artwork

The painting features two men - the person on the left is Jean de Dinteville, a French diplomat, and on the right is his dear buddy, Georges de Selve, who is the Bishop of Lavaur. This artwork was created during a tumultuous time in European history, when the Pope declined to dissolve the marriage of Henry VII and Catherine of Aragon. The German artist, Hans Holbein, was known for his mastery in manipulating oil paint to craft different designs. This painting is a perfect example of Holbein's skill, as an elongated object between the men's feet transforms into a skull when observed from a specific angle. This print is precisely color-matched to the original and has the approval of the National Gallery. Every purchase of this painting contributes to the museum's operations.
