About the artist

John William Godward, a London native born in 1861, was well known for his Neo-Classicist and Pre-Raphaelite artwork in the concluding phases of the Neo-Classicist period. Originating from Wimbledon district, he was mentored by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. However, his painting style lost popularity with the advent of modern art. His life ended in 1922.
